OUR IMPACT

LA Forward is proud to have become a major player in local progressive organizing here in Los Angeles County. We’ve been a critical part of securing numerous victories for candidates and policies that support our values, working alongside a coalition of partners.

Learn more about some of our recent wins:

We serve on the steering committees of key housing justice coalitions including ACT-LA and Our Future LA, whose policy wins have created tens of thousands of units of affordable housing.

We also serve on the founding steering committees of the LA Chapter of Working Families Party LA and the LA Regional Power Convening.

Over the last two years, we launched a new organizing effort in the San Gabriel Valley, mobilizing support for affordable housing and tenant protections in a dozen cities. Our partner organization, LA Forward Institute, trained 25 community leaders through a 6 month fellowship program and now we’re gearing up to recruit and support candidates in at least 5 SGV cities.

2023:

  • We are helping lead two key charter reform coalitions (OUR LA, Fair Rep LA) to stop corruption and clean up LA City Hall through independent redistricting, Council expansion, and ethics reform.

  • We organized community convenings in 11 out of 15 council districts.

  • We helped win $15 million extra in the City budget for unarmed crisis response and are continuing to fight to win more from the police budget.

2022:

  • We drove 6,000 messages calling for the resignations of former Council President Nury Martinez, Councilmember Gil Cedillo and Councilmember Kevin de Leon, after leaked audio showed the group making racist remarks.

  • Our comprehensive 2022 Voter Guide reached 150,000 people.

  • We ran the Westside field campaign to win Measure ULA to fund affordable housing and tenant protections in the City of Los Angeles.

2021:

  • We co-led a coalition that achieved the first-ever progressive sweep of neighborhood council elections in 2021, electing 240 progressive candidates with a win-rate of nearly 75%.

2020:

  • We helped form and lead the Healthy LA Coalition of over 375 local groups responding to the pandemic, which won 30 crucial policies to protect vulnerable Angelenos.

  • We organized 3,500 messages to LA City Council Members and to the LA County Board of Supervisors to keep people housed and push for worker protections during the pandemic.

  • We made more than 40,000 calls to voters to help pass Measure J in the 2020 elections.

2018:

  • We drove 450 messages to the LA City Council to pass historic campaign finance reforms.

2017-19:

  • We drove 700 messages to the Governor and the LA City Council that helped decriminalize street vending for the first time in a century.
