Our Structure

The LA Forward family of organizations is composed of multiple entities, including two legally-distinct nonprofits – LA Forward Institute, which is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and LA Forward, which is a 501(c)(4) nonprofit. LA Forward also directly controls several other types of organizations:

  • LA Forward is the sole owner of LA Podcast LLC, which produces and distributes civic media content. 

  • LA Forward Action Fund is a Political Action Committee (PAC) sponsored by LA Forward that operates year-round and fundraises to make direct contributions to candidates and make Independent Expenditures in smaller races throughout the County.

  • LA Forward also sponsors temporary PACs designed exclusively to support particular ballot measures or candidates.

A majority of our budget comes from our members’ monthly donations. In 2026, our goal is to raise 60% of our budget from dues-paying members. That will enable us to be 100% accountable to people like you. Your gift allows us to respond rapidly to emerging issues, to take on powerful interests, and spend as little time possible on fundraising so we can focus on the crucial work that needs to get done every day.
