Our Values
Building Power for a Fair, Flourishing Society
We build power with community members, leaders, coalition partners, and public institutions to shift public policy, strengthen democracy, challenge inequality, protect the natural environment, and advance justice. We believe everyone has the right to live with dignity, stability, and opportunity.
Growing Leaders
We believe people should not only be invited in — they should be supported to lead. We create trainings, structures, and shared practices that cultivate individual and collective leadership to help people build the skills, confidence, and relationships they need to participate in public life. We value leadership that is broad, diverse, and collective. We enable people to take responsibility, assume greater leadership, and act together.
Possibility and Determination
We reject cynicism and helplessness. We believe change is possible, and embrace hope. When we meet challenges, we turn to one another, look for solutions rooted in community, and keep moving forward with discipline, ambition, and purpose.
Kindness and Inclusivity
We create spaces that are warm, welcoming, and grounded in respect. We want people to feel like they belong, especially if they are new, still learning, or unsure where they fit. We lead with clear values while staying open to people who may not agree with us on everything. We understand that building a stronger movement means making room for growth.
We ask questions before making assumptions. We reflect on our work, seek out feedback, and learn from our successes and our mistakes. We are curious, humble, and willing to grow.
Curiosity and Continuous Learning
We strive to be a trusted source of information, analysis, and political education for the public and for decision-makers. We take facts seriously, correct mistakes when needed, and value research, professional expertise, and lived experience. We communicate clearly and avoid insider language, ideological jargon, and empty rhetoric.
Trust, Accuracy, and Clarity
We stay flexible and responsive in a changing political landscape. We test ideas, learn quickly, and shift tactics when needed without losing sight of our mission. We value thoughtful action over unnecessary process, and use our resources wisely. We move decisively and allow for experimentation.
Independent, Strategic, and Courageous
We build power across race, class, age, identity, neighborhood, and geography. We believe lasting change requires bringing people together across differences and creating varied entry points into public life. Partnership is central to how we work. We collaborate with others, especially groups rooted in the communities most impacted by injustice, and facilitate relationships within our base and with our coalition partners. We believe our ability to bring communities, experts, and decision-makers together around shared goals is vital to our success.
