Why Local Government is Broken and What We Can Do to Fix It

Join us for the kickoff of a new salon series sponsored by LA Forward exploring why local government is broken and what we can do to fix it.
This isn’t about blaming individual politicians. Instead, we’ll dig into the deeper problems that keep our city from working like it should. As a long-time civil servant recently said, "beneath the broken sidewalks is a broken system." In our first conversation, we’ll focus on the structural problems with LA City government that thwart accountability and create corruption, and then introduce some of the promising reforms already being proposed and discussed by community leaders.
This is a place for learning and having conversations about issues where we might not all agree with each other. Future salons will focus on critical topics like policing and alternative ways to promote public safety, the housing and homelessness crises, and other major challenges facing our city.
