Our Westside book group is planning to read and discuss Kelly Lytle Hernández's book City of Inmates: Conquest, Rebellion, and the Rise of Human Caging in Los Angeles, 1771–1965 over 2 meetings!
The book explains how the City of Angels became the capital city of the world’s leading incarcerator. But City of Inmates also chronicles resilience and rebellion, documenting how targeted peoples and communities have always fought back. The discussion is timely given that the incumbent Los Angeles district attorney may have a challenger—George Gascón—in the upcoming 2020 election.
Thurs, 11/14, 7-9pm, Chapters 1 - 3
Tues 12/17, 7-9pm, Chapters 4 thru end
Both meet-ups will be at Jessica’s home in the Palms/Beverlywood area.
