April Monthly Meeting

We can’t win elections from the sidelines. We have to get MOVING!

Canvassing (also known as door-knocking) is one of the most effective tools we have to shape election outcomes. Face-to-face conversations don't just persuade voters, they also give campaigns real-time feedback so candidates can hear and respond to what their constituents actually care about.

This month, we're diving into the why behind canvassing and field strategy. We're excited to welcome special guest Anne Freiermuth, Campaign Manager for Eunisses Hernandez, who will share what it really takes to run a winning ground game.

And that's not all! While election season is heating up, so is our LA City budget advocacy work. Come learn about the funding priorities we're fighting for this year and how you can plug in.

  • Get tools and resources to help protect your neighbors

  • Connect with others who care about LA’s future

Teach-In: An "Overpaid CEO Tax" for LA

It's nearing election time, which means many petitions are circulating in order to get new ballot initiatives onto City, County, and State ballots! For City of LA, LAANE has been collecting signatures to place an "Overpaid CEO Tax" on the ballot. The initiative would progressively tax large businesses whose CEOs make more than 50 times what their median worker makes – with higher taxes as the CEO-to-Worker gap grows more extreme. If passed, the Overpaid CEO Tax would generate more than $500 million of revenue for housing and other community needs. Find out more about this proposal at this 30 minute quick info session!

LAST CHANCE TO PUSH POLICE REFORM AT CHARTER COMMISSION

This Thursday, March 5th, LA's City Charter Commission has devoted its entire meeting to discussing whether or not to pass any of 13 police reforms onto City Council, as part of the commission's recommendations for city charter reform. In particular, there is a real threat of the City Charter Commission moving to create a different commission altogether to punt all of these reforms too -- a separate commission that could take years to set up and have any impact. We don't have time to wait. Come learn more about the reforms on the Commission's desk, and how you can advocate to push the City Charter Commission to send police reform proposals to City Council.
